A Tribute to a loving brother, uncle, and friend

Okay, I guess part of the reason it has taken me so long

to write a post is because this is a post I have been

wanting to write, but part of me has been putting it off.

As many of you are aware that our brother/uncle Javier has

passed. Javier was like the brother I never had. He was a great

friend and fun to be around. I enjoyed calling him and catching up.

This is a picture of Angel and I at Javier and Miriam's

wedding. I was six months pregnant with Stephen.

November 1, 2008

It was a beautiful outdoor weeding over looking the golf course.

It had been raining that day but a few hours before the ceremony

it stopped raining and the sun came out.

As you can see the sky was picture perfect...

... as they were exchanging their vows.

It was a very joyous day.

When Stephen was six months old we traveled to CA to visit

family and Stephen met many family members for the first time.

After arriving at the airport we headed to my in-laws, but stopped

in Reedley to say hi to Javier. This was the first time Stephen met his

Tio Javier. Look at his little hand holding Javier's.

Later that weekend he got to spend more time with Tio.

On February, 25th we received a call no one wants to receive.

We were notified that Javier had been shot. He was taken

to the hospital and put on life support, but the shot was

fatal. He was taken off life support and passed a few

days later. His organs were donated and one of his

kidneys was received by a California Highway

Patrol Officer who attended the his funeral.

Obituary

Javier Bejar, age 28, of Clovis, CA was shot in the line

of duty on Thursday, February 25, 2010. Born in Mexico

on December 3, 1981, Javier is son to Wenceslao

and Saloma Bejar. His family immigrated to the United

States and settled in the Central Valley in 1985. Javier

grew up in the Orange Cove area and graduated from

Reedley High School in 2000. He later attended

California State University, Fresno and graduated

with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Javier married

the love of his life, Miriam, a childhood friend in 2008.

Javier always lived by a code of honor; his motto was

"Mind, Body, and Spirit." He showed this code in high

school when he joined the Explorers program with the

Reedley Police Department, rising to the rank of

Lieutenant.

Javier joined the Marines in 2000 and served one

tour of duty in both Iraq and Kuwait. While in the

Marines, Javier earned several honors including

the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy and Marine Corps

Achievement Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and

Meritorious Mast. After being honorably discharged in

2004, Javier returned to the Central Valley and attended

the Fresno City Police Academy. He joined the Reedley

Police Department in 2005 where he quickly became a

top officer. He earned Officer of the Year in 2008 and a

life-saving medal in 2009. One of Javier´s passions as an

officer was anti-DUI efforts. Javier was recognized three

years in a row for these efforts and received a state-wide

honor in 2008. During his years of service at the

department in Reedley, Javier served as a field training

officer, was part of his department´s color guard, and

was second in command for the department´s Rapid

Deployment Team. Javier demonstrated his continual

commitment to the Explorers program volunteering countless

Saturday and Monday nights as senior advisor, drill

instructor, and physical trainer.

One of Javier´s greatest wishes was to be an organ donor,

and he was on the Organ and Tissue Donor Registry. His

wish was to help other Law Enforcement families in their

time of need. Javier felt honored to serve his country, his

community, and was dedicated to his family. Miriam and

the Bejar family want to thank all of the Reedley Police

Department, Clovis and Fresno Police Department, and

the community for their support and love during this difficult

time. Javier is survived by his dearly loved wife Miriam;

parents Wenceslao and Saloma Bejar; brothers Monico

Pineda, Angel Bejar, Orlando Bejar, Omar Bejar and Nelson

Bejar; and sisters Maricela Bejar Chavez and Daisy Bejar.

Funeral Services will be held at the Fresno Convention

Center, New Exhibit Hall, 848 "M" Street, Fresno, on

Monday, March 8, 2010, 10:00 a.m. A motorcade will

commence for interment at the Reedley Cemetery,

2185 S. Reed Ave, Reedley.

At the end of the graveside service, family members released

a single white dove representing the spirit of Javier.

Followed by the release of two baskets of doves,

representing those to follow, who join the first

one so they can all together make the

spiritual flight home.
