Puerto Rico 6

Sorry for all the pictures, and if it seems like I am dragging it out.

we were there seven days and I took over 1200 pictures. 

 These first pictures were taken in San Juan.

Love these types of water fountains.

It was very sunny and bright.

We saw this ship as we were leaving San Juan.

The next day we traveled to Ponce.  This is El Castillo Serrallés.

The Serrallés Mansion was built in 1926, by Juan Eugenio Serrallés, 

son of businessman Juan Serrallés, founder of Destileria Serrallés. 

 The castle is now a museum with information about the sugar cane 

and rum industries and its impact in the economy of Puerto Rico.  

They had a butterfly garden.

The four-story house has a Y-shaped plan

 and a large central patio area.

The landscaping was very unique.

They had a sculpture of Don Quijote in the front.

The kids had fun running around outside and Victoria had

fun running around inside as well.  I on the other hand

 did not have too much fun restraining her form going

to the places she should not be.

Just behind El Castillo Serrallés, the Vigia Cross is an

 homage to both modern and historic Ponce. 

 The towering concrete cross, complete with an observation platform

 which you can ascend via elevator (Stephen in the observation 

platform) pays tribute to a wooden cross that once stood here. 

 The original was used as a look out to notify the town's 

merchants of approaching ships to the port of Ponce.  The 

cross would be hung with the flag of the ship, signaling 

the origin and goods coming into town.

They had a Japanese Garden next to the cross.

We then went to down town Ponce.

The church in the city of Ponse.

The Parque de Bombas de Ponce (Old Ponce Fire Station) was

 built as the main exhibit pavilion for the 1882 Exhibition Trade Fair.

Victoria had no fear to run off on her own.
